Late this afternoon news that Maple Leafs Star Centre Auston Matthews has possibly tested positive for Covid-19 was reported in the Toronto Sun by Steve Simmons.
In the Steve Simmons column, Steve makes mention of two NHL sources outside of Toronto, who he says confirmed the unfortunate diagnosis.
Matthews had been living and training in Arizona hoping to be ready for a July 10th return to Toronto. Frederik Andersen who was staying with Matthews, tested negative for the virus and has since left Arizona and is currently in California.
To date, the team nor his agent have confirmed the diagnosis, attempts to also reach goalie Frederik Andersen have also been unanswered.
The article states that the organization is awaiting clarity before releasing a formal statement themselves.
The column goes on to say, that a unnumbered amount of players from the Arizona Coyotes who were practicing in Arizona alongside Matthews also tested positive.
This also comes on the heels of news breaking in Tampa Bay, where Lightening players and support staff have also been diagnosed with Covid-19.
We will keep an eye on this as news continues to come out, We at Centre of Leafs Nation wish Auston a quick recovery, if this news is indeed correct.
