Maple Leafs & Blue Jackets: Maple Leafs flip the script for a historical comeback

As I write this blog, I am still suffering from the hang over of emotions that came about from last night’s stunning and recording setting comeback by the Maple Leafs. With their playoff lives hanging in the balance, the Maple Leafs shocked the hockey world by coming from behind 3-0 to win in dramatic fashion off an over time goal by Auston Matthews to win 4-3.

Making them the first team in NHL history to comeback from a 3-0 deficit with less than five minutes remaining in an an elimination game in the playoffs.

Leafs Nation last night was fun as it was aggravating. In an almost 80 minute span we saw the worst and the best this roster can offer, there is no two ways to describe it. The come back of all comebacks started off a William Nylander goal as he stuffed the puck in on a infront of the net battle. Then came the Tavares goal to make it 3-2, then almost in quick session Zach Hyman tied it with a mere seconds on the clock.

We have seen this script, the ending was always heart break. To see the same script end differently was so surreal, I am in a state of disbelief. I asked earlier in the game if the Maple Leafs were cursed, how can we exercise these demons to produce a better result that favours our beloved buds. There it was on full display, Auston Matthews with his lethal shot scoring to give the Maple Leafs the overtime win, where we could see something lift off this team. Hope returned to Leafs Nation.

I will admit I was wrong, I will admit I did lose some faith in this team when the game appeared over, but the glorious bastards made us all beleaf again, that memory of last night’s game will forever live in Maple Leafs lore especially if they can win tomorrow night.

Maybe just maybe, the curse that hung over this franchise is finally gone. Leafs Nation and more specifically the Maple Leafs will see better days ahead.
